Under the name “Paint Me a Story” – the new series of master classes with Ramazan Useinov are something to get excited about. This time oriented more towards his art; he is looking forward to share his technique and style with students of N2N Gallery.

Ramazan’s creative painting is celebrated by collectors and art critics alike. Anyone learning from the master has a rare chance to plunge into a journey of true artistic discovery and growth.  He portrays a dream like reality – fantastical animals, stylized men and women, the elderly, simple but magical scenery – the artists tells us of profound understanding and love of his home in Central Asia. What would be your story like?

You will learn from beginning how to think, see and reason like Ramazan Useinov, through the guidance of the artist himself. Under a gentle guidance you will make your life story vivid trying to use artist’s figures in a close connection with your memories. As a result, you will have your own version of a story, unique and unforgettable, personally created by you.

At the end of the course, you will know how to build a composition, how to use palette and apply paint. You will be able to pick the format and the rhythm of the work. You will come out of the master classes knowing how to independently compose a piece of art from start to finish.

The 5 days (18 hours) course will take place at N2N Gallery Al Ain Tower (located opposite Jones the Grocer, Khalidiyah, ground floor, entrance through Costa Café), starting 18th of November 2017.

Briefly about the artist:

Ramazan Useinov was born in 1949, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, far away from his beloved Crimea. In Uzbekistan he grew up between vineyards, as his father was a winegrower and winemaker who dreamt for his son to take over the family’s small business. After a long and big confrontation with his family, he finally became a student at the Republican College of Arts P.P. Benkov in Tashkent. Like graduated artist, in 1972, Ramazan returned to Samarkand where he started to work at the Art Foundation. In the early 90’s, he returned to the land of his parents. Useinov’s artworks are displayed in museums in Moscow, Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Nukus, Sevastopol, Simferopol and are kept in private collections in Europe, Asia and America.

 

Course Structure:

Homework: It’s highly recommended to study Ramazan’s work before starting these classes. You need to bring a sketch of the story you will depict as your important memory when the first day comes.  This is the starting point for all students without which one can’t move on and work with the artist!

Day 1 (6 hours): Introduction & building foundations for the piece

The artist will present his vision, implementation, objectives and skills to be achieved during the master class. He will look all the sketches of the students and help to make necessary changes to achieve a right composition.

After a break, students will learn how to transfer the sketch to the canvas. By the guidance of the artist right composition will be placed on and you will be able to take a next step.

Day 2, 3, 4, 5 9 (3 hours/day): “Technique secrets” – revealing & creating the final painting

Following days will focus on colors, motives, expression and shapes. You will gradually work on your knowledge about all that is included in Ramazan’s work.  The artist will be demonstrating the process, for you to understand how to approach the canvas and engage with creative task. Ramazan will show you how to overcome his techniques so you can achieve the goal.

By the guidance of the artist, you will be able to bring to a canvas color layers that contain appropriate combinations releasing the light. Known for his consistency he will meticulously show you how he built his own style with intense and restrained emotion of his characters. You will build your composition using the right colors get by mixing, making them unique and winning new dimensions. The main thing is to know when to stop, to recognize the moment when the work is done – the feeling is telling so and artistic eye, as well. Then, the harmony will be created.

Each student will have to complete 1 painting. The final piece will be shown in a group exhibition for a public view on graduation day. On that day your artwork will be a part of current Ramazan’s exhibition.

Master classes duration: 18th November to 22th November 2017

Graduation evening: 23rd November 2017, 7pm

Part 1: Saturday, November 18th

10.00 – 13.00 (break) 14.30 – 17.30

Part 2: Sunday – Wednesday, November 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd

Morning group 10.00 – 13.00 / Evening group 18.30 – 21.30

Oil paint: 80 ml titanium white; 38ml: ochre, yellow ochre, cadmium red deep, kraplak red deep, lemon yellow, cadmium orange, cadmium yellow deep, Indian yellow, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, emerald green, cadmium green, cobalt violet, raw sienna, umbra burnt, vivid pink, buft titanium (Pebeo 65), black.
  4. Acryl paint: not less than 50ml: yellow ochre, cadmium red deep, lemon yellow, cadmium orange, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, emerald green, cadmium green, cobalt violet, raw sienna, vivid pink, black, white.
  5. Brushes:  range from small to large – flat, long hard bristle; 2 pic with pointy or round bristle small sizes
  6. Odorless thinner
  7. Linseed oil
  8. Lacquer damarny
  9. Charcoal 1 stick
  10. Oiler single metal or plastic 1 pc
  11. Simple sketchbook A4
  12. Pencils: 6B, 2B soft
  13. Eraser, soft
  14. Palette knives: small (approx. size 2sm) & medium (approx. size 4sm)
  15. Canvas:  70×80 (recommended size)

Other materials to bring:

  1. Apron to protect clothing
  2. Cloth for wiping brushes
  3. Soap
  4. Kitchen towel
  5. Plastic bag for rubbish

*Please note that paint might drop on to clothing in the process of painting, wear something that is allowed to get messy
