N2N Gallery is proud to launch a new series of Portrait Oil Painting Master Class with an acclaimed artist Maria Chepeleva.

N2N Gallery is calling all aspiring and established artists in Abu Dhabi to join the new series of Portrait master classes. It is a rare occurrence for the artist Maria Chepeleva to run a master class, so take a unique opportunity to master the basic principles of portrait painting! Learn from and work with an internationally recognized artist, Maria Chepeleva, who is an award winning master of oil painting, specialized in different genres.
Expect more than what you are ready for: this master class will help you to realize that psychological similarity of the portrayed person is as important as the outer one where historically the portrait’s function is the recognition of the portrayed person as well as keeping the memory of him.
Joining the course, you will learn from beginning how to think, see and reason like an artist. Under a gentle guidance of an artist herself, you will focus on observing and getting the knowledge of the basic elements drawing the face.  You will pay attention on the proportion and the coordination of your eyes with your hand holding the charcoal.  With 4 easy to follow steps you will learn how to make a sketch, to build a composition, to select and use the color palette and apply the paint. You will come out of the master class knowing how to independently compose a portrait from sketch to the final artwork. Everyone can work on their own level and under a gentle guidance of the artist you will be able to go beyond your own expectations.

The culmination of the course will be a final masterpiece, which will be exhibited as a part of a group exhibition in N2N Gallery on a graduation day!

The 5 days (18 hours) course will take place at N2N Gallery Al Ain Tower (located opposite Jones the Grocer, Khalidiyah, ground floor, entrance through Costa Café).

Master Class Structure:
1st stage _ Introduction & Composition Basics. Artist will start with explaining the basics of the composition. Directly on the canvas, she will paint a portrait of the model, explaining the basic laws of composition in the process (the placement and size of the head in the format, the proportions of the face, the golden section, etc.). And she will proceed to the layout of the main color spots.

2ndstage _ Graphic Sketching & Building a Composition.  Students will apply the received information on the paper. First you will need to outline the frame on the paper in proportions to your future finished format (pre-prepared canvas). Within borders, you will make a linear sketch of your painting. At this stage, artist will guide you and will make corrections to the composition where it’s necessary.

3rdstage _ Color & Proportions.  Having disassembled the composition linearly, it’s time to work it out on a canvas format. On the previously prepared canvases, you will outline the main proportions of the head with charcoal, gradually detailing the picture. Using oil paints you will decide primary colors of your composition. The main thing here is the color of your future work and essential features of the model.

4th stage_ Detailing & Completion of the Work. Under a guidance of the artist the students will take all their previously learned knowledge and bring their composition to life, culminating in the final painting.
